Saabaru

2005 Saab 9-2X Aero For Sale (NOW SOLD!!!)

aka Saabaru

It is a 2005 Subaru WRX Wagon with a few cosmetic & other updates to be licensed as a Saab for sale in the US.  2.0L turbo, all wheel drive, 5spd manual transmission. A little bit of info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza_(second_generation)#Saab_9-2X

The STI rack is great, it has a nicer interior and unique headlights & tail lights from the WRX.  Otherwise just about everything is Subaru, parts interchange and there is a huge aftermarket.

This car is basically factory stock.  It has a K&N air filter element (stock air box), aftermarket tint, and a trailer hitch receiver (works for a bike rack).  Manual transmission, cloth / linen interior (black with off-white inserts).  CD changer. 16″ alloy wheels, with decent Michelin Pilot Sport AS3s.

97k miles, still daily-driven.  I am the 2nd owner and have had the car for ~3yrs and 50k miles.  Clean title in hand.  No accidents under my ownership.  The previous owner mentioned a door ding repair on the passenger rear. Never been on a drag strip, autocross, rallycross, or track day – though with a few modifications it would be great for any of those.

Condition:

It has a few issues and needs maintenance and some repairs.  Runs and drives, as I commute in it every day. I would fix it up as I like the car, but I need something that can tow a boat.

  1. The paint on the metal bits is pretty good, but most of the plastic pieces have fading or other textural flaws.  Front bumper cover, intercooler scoop, mirror covers, rear spoiler, and rear bumper.
  2. It is nearly due by miles, but overdue by time, for the timing belt and the rest of the 105k service (tensioners, water pump, etc).
  3. It consumes about a quart every 3-4k miles.  I change with Mobil 1 every 5k.  I suspect the majority of the oil usage is from a turbo return line leak, there is oil on the down-pipe there and it will smoke a little from the passenger side of the hood at a stop light.
  4. The A/C just crapped out.  It got weak a few months back, and one can of R134a was enough to bring it back to life.  It is blowing warm again, and I don’t know where the leak is.
  5. A couple stains on the linen material, it is hard to clean.  Interior in general is pretty good, dash, shifter and wheel are excellent.
  6. Missing the driver’s side fog light bezel
  7. Badges are faded or removed

Prior to the recent oil leak and a/c, the only problem I had in 50k miles was a split end tank on the factory radiator.  I replaced it with an OEM-style Koyo.

Looking for $4500 as-is.  I figure it is worth $6-6500 with the mechanical stuff done, which is in line with the Edmunds pricing for a WRX.  There aren’t many of these at 100k miles or less, unmolested by back yard modifications.  If it doesn’t sell as-is I’ll get it fixed and ask that much for it, but someone who has more time than me could save a few bucks.

I’d consider a trade for the right pickup or SUV, but prefer a cash deal as I’ll likely buy new.

EDIT #1 22-Feb:

Some additional info people have asked for:

  • This ad may read as a laundry list.  I’m an engineer and detailed by nature – I’d like an enthusiast to keep this funky car rolling, and don’t want to disappoint anyone who travels here.
  • VIN is JF4GG22675G055866.  Clean carfax.
  • I have two factory keys, each with the remote lock fob
  • The power steering whines for about a minute on a cold start, typical Subaru
  • No rust that I’ve found, can provide any pics you’d like to see.
  • Added pic of title / window sticker / some receipts and Saab booklet.  Also have the owner’s manual.
  • For a fly-n-ride, I would comfortably drive the car across the country.  Provided you don’t need a/c and keep a spare quart of oil in the trunk.  I’ll pick you up at FLL or PBI.  Maybe MIA if you bribe me with a Cuban sandwich and some flan while we’re down there.  MCO is about two hours away if you can find your way here.
